A year into Obama’s presidency, is America postracial?

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

By Walter Rodgers, Christian Science Monitor  Washington – A year ago, many Americans, mostly white ones, congratulated themselves on having moved beyond the nation’s “original sin” of slavery into a “postracial America.”

Amid the fervor over the nation’s first black president, few beyond the black media bothered to ask black Americans if they also felt the country had entered a new era.

Most of us recall that Barack Obama beat John McCain handily. Few recall that he (like most recent Democratic presidential candidates) would have lost big-time if only white votes counted. A black friend who didn’t want to be named cynically told me that “white folks” only voted for Mr. Obama because they “decided things were so bad they would vote for the other guy even if he was black.” (more…)

Antisemitic Chants at Suburban Basketball Game

Friday, December 18th, 2009

A suburban high school basketball game took an ugly turn on Tuesday night when fans began chanting antisemitic remarks. Now, the incident is being investigated by police and the Anti-Defamation League.

Upper Darby High School’s basketball team drew a large crowd for its home opener. Opponent Lower Merion also sent a large contingent. Fans from both schools who were present say the students were chanting back and forth to each other.

Upper Darby made reference to Lower Merion’s large Jewish population and, the fans say, toward the end of the game began chanting, “Warm up the oven.”

In a letter to parents, Lower Merion principal Sean Hughes said the chant “could only be classified as hate speech.”   MORE>>>

Racial Tensions Boil Over in Phila. School

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

In her first public comments on the racial tension and violence at South Philadelphia High, the school’s principal today said she was “very disappointed and upset at last week’s fights and racism.”

LaGreta Brown apologized to those hurt in the fights, and said she will “establish a culture where the entire student body feels like one big family.”

The announcement came at a news conference outlining new security measures at the 900-student school, rocked last week by racial violence. (more…)

The War on [White] Cops

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

By Michelle Malkin –  The left’s police-hating chickens are coming home to roost. While partisan liberals have gone out of their way to blame conservative media and the Tea Party movement for creating a “climate of hate,” they are silent on the cultural and literal war on cops that has raged for decades — and escalated tragically this year.

The total number of law enforcement officers shot and killed this year is up 19 percent over last year, according to the Christian Science Monitor. More officers have died in ambush incidents this year than in any other since 2000.

The Lakewood, Wash., massacre on Thanksgiving weekend claimed the lives of four dedicated officers getting ready for work at a coffee shop Sunday morning. Maurice Clemmons — the violent career thug who received clemency from former Arkansas GOP Gov. Mike Huckabee and benefited from fatal systemic lapses in the criminal justice system — had many other enablers. (more…)

Surgeon general: More minority doctors needed

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

The new U.S. Surgeon General on Thursday called for stepped-up efforts in increasing the number of minority physicians.

In what was one of her first speeches to a large crowd since she was sworn in Nov. 3, Dr. Regina Benjamin noted that the proportion of U.S. physicians who are minorities is only 6 percent — the same proportion as a century ago.

“There’s something wrong with that,” said Benjamin, speaking at a conference on health disparities at a hotel in downtown Atlanta.

The numbers come from a 2004 estimate of the percentage of U.S. physicians that are black or Hispanic. Blacks and Hispanics account for roughly 28 percent of the U.S. population, according to 2008 figures from the U.S. Census Bureau.   MORE>>>

Wal-Mart scuffle prompts racism claims

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

This much isn’t in dispute: Heather Ellis joined a line at a Wal-Mart nearly three years ago.

Whether she cut in line or merely switched checkout lanes to join her cousin is in dispute, and the accounts of what happened next vary greatly. The debate has divided this economically struggling town of 11,000 along racial lines.

Ellis, then a college student with no criminal history, said some white patrons shoved and hurled racial slurs at her when she switched checkout lines at Wal-Mart in January 2007. (more…)

Major Hasan and the Unravelling Of America

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

By Patrick Buchanan-    Nidal Malik Hasan was two men.

One was the proud Army major who wore battle fatigues to mosque; the other, the proud Arab who wore Muslim garb in civilian life.

What brought Hasan’s identities into fatal conflict was his belief that Iraq and Afghanistan were unjust wars, and his shock that he, a Muslim, was to be sent to serve in one of those wars, against fellow Muslims—a sin against Allah meriting damnation.

Hasan was conflicted by a dual loyalty—to the country he had sworn to protect, and to his perceived duty as a Muslim. When Hasan told his neighbor that morning, “I am going to do good work for God,” the call of jihad overrode his oath of loyalty as an American soldier. (more…)

Rapists Home BodiesBlack Serial Killer/Rapist

CLEVELAND – Investigators trying to identify the bodies of six women found in the home of a convicted rapist are focusing the inquiry on eight or nine missing women, the coroner said Monday.

It could take days or weeks to identify the bodies using dental records or DNA mouth-swab samples from relatives. Cuyahoga County Coroner Frank Miller said his office has begun the “arduous” process of collecting materials from dentists and relatives.

The six women were black and five of them had been strangled, authorities said. The cause of death of the sixth hadn’t been determined.

The investigation will pay close attention to missing women who were living alone, were homeless or had drug or alcohol problems, Miller said. MORE>>>

Couple SlainLeader of torture and murder group sentenced to death

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – A Tennessee man convicted of kidnapping, rape and murder charges in the fatal carjacking of a couple on a date has been sentenced to death.

The defendant, 28-year-old Lemaricus Davidson, showed no reaction Friday as jurors announced the death sentences for the murders of 21-year-old college student Channon Christian and her 23-year-old boyfriend, Christopher Newsom.

Davidson was found guilty of abducting the couple in Knoxville during a 2007 carjacking by several armed men.

Both were raped, Newsom was fatally shot and Christian suffocated after she was choked and stuffed in a garbage bag and trash can.

Davidson’s brother was convicted in the same attack in August and is serving life in prison without parole. Two other defendants from Kentucky are awaiting trial.    MORE>>>

Another billion dollar lawsuit against NYC club

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Not to be outdone by that measly $1 billion class action lawsuit filed against Greenhouse—the “eco-friendly” but allegedly black-unfriendly downtown nightclub—some other offended blacks have stepped up with their own $1.5 billion lawsuit! Greenhouse: the “big tobacco” of nightclubs. This new lawsuit is being filed today by Raqiyah Mays, a Kiss FM radio host, and three others who say that they were not let in “due to their race.” Isn’t it about time for Latinos, Hasidim, and Sikhs to get their piece of the Greenhouse bonanza?

Mays was kept on the humiliating side of the velvet rope on September 25th, when she and others were trying to get into the Urban World Film Festival’s after-party. She claims that the only black people admitted were those who arrived up with whites. “I would call it racism,” Mays tells the Daily News. “I felt embarrassed. I felt humiliated. They were playing the picking game.”   MORE>>>

Dallas pays blacks to move into white neighborhoods

Monday, October 26th, 2009

The Dallas Housing Authority board of commissioners plans to create a separate new waiting list for special rental assistance vouchers that can only be used by low-income black residents who move to predominately white neighborhoods.

The DHA, whose board of commissioners gave approval for the new list Wednesday, is not yet accepting applications for the housing assistance. Federal approval is needed.

The agency already has 8,000 families on a waiting list for general rental assistance that can be used anywhere. But it cannot find enough qualified families on that list to use the last 500 of 3,205 special rent vouchers from a court settlement designed to desegregate public housing.   SOURCE>>>

Black ‘victim’ recants hate-crime story

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

Megan Williams’ shocking accusations initially strained the imagination: Seven white people beat her with sticks, forced her to eat feces, raped her and taunted her with racial slurs over several days in a ramshackle trailer in West Virginia.

But the suspects eventually confessed to their actions and pleaded guilty. All but one were sent to prison. Now Williams, who is black, is taking it all back.

Williams lied in 2007 because she wanted to get back at a boyfriend who had beaten her, her attorney, Byron Potts, said Wednesday at a news conference in his Columbus office.

Williams no longer wants to live a lie, Potts said. (more…)

Stop blaming racism for the failure of black parents

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

Growing youth violence in the United States will not be resolved until we find the moral courage to address the racial issues that underlie it.

During a Chicago school visit earlier this month to the site where a black honor student was beaten to death by a mob of black students, Attorney General Eric Holder stated that growing youth violence in America is not just “a black problem,” but a problem for all races. The trouble with this statement is that it is statistically untrue.

Youth violence may not be solely a black problem, but it is primarily a black problem. (more…)

Vanderbilt professor slammed for backing film that calls racism a myth

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

An organization that tracks hate-group activity in the U.S. is accusing Vanderbilt University professor Carol Swain, a black scholar known for her conservative stances on race and immigration, of being an apologist for white supremacists.

The incident started last week when the Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center posted a blog item critiquing the documentary A Conversation About Race, mentioning that positive comments by Swain lent the film an air of legitimacy.

Swain fired back, making her case against the advocacy group in a blog submitted to the news site The Huffington Post and in a string of messages she sent to followers on her Twitter account. (more…)

Craig Bodeker Refutes the SPLC

Friday, October 16th, 2009

On October 8th, and again on October 9th, Sonia Scherr, of the Southern Poverty Law Center, published two separate and scathing attacks on me and my documentary film, A CONVERSATION ABOUT RACE, on their HATEWATCH website.

Ms. Scherr made eight specific points regarding the film’s “errors,” before concluding that I am, in fact, a “racist.” Most critics agree the film does an excellent job pointing out the vagueness of that term, and that how it has recently morphed into the intellectual equilivent of calling me a “poopyhead.”

But I will still address Ms. Scherr’s eight points here. (more…)

UK Government prepares to indoctrinate white areas

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

LONDON – Hundreds of “white enclaves” across Britain have been chosen to receive special funding from the Government in an effort to curb the spread of racist extremism among the working classes.

Ministers are to spend £12 million ($25.7 million) reassuring 130 “traditional communities” that immigrants and non-white residents are not unfairly taking their jobs and houses.

The community initiative follows growing concerns that extremist groups such as the British National Party are feeding on fears and myths that the white working classes are victims of social injustice.

Yesterday Communities Secretary John Denham named the first 27 districts that would benefit from the money.

But critics attacked the plan as pandering to the BNP at the expense of minority communities, where there is evidence of real, rather than perceived, discrimination. (more…)

It’s racist to suggest Obama didn’t deserve Nobel Prize

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

In the first edition of Margaret Mitchell’s novel Gone With The Wind Rhett Butler boasts of having shot dead a young black man for looking at a white woman ‘the wrong way’. The presumptuous young pup was getting above himself, Rhett explained, ’so I shot him then and there’. Much the same thing happened in US public life last week when Barack Obama accepted the Nobel Peace Prize, and white America howled him down.

Too soon, white America said, the presumptuous young pup. He’s getting above himself.

It was a classic repressed-racist reaction. He’s got the presidency, God damn it, what else does he want? An Oscar? An Emmy? A Pulitzer Prize? There was no such response when Al Gore won the Nobel for a single travelling slide show. No one said he hadn’t done enough yet, he hadn’t saved the world yet. It was sufficient that he wanted to, and spoke well in that cause. (more…)

Interracial couple denied marriage license in La.

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

HAMMOND, La. – A Louisiana justice of the peace said he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple out of concern for any children the couple might have.

Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.

Neither Bardwell nor the couple immediately returned phone calls from The Associated Press. But Bardwell told the Daily Star of Hammond that he was not a racist. (more…)

Black kids are a bigger threat to themselves than KKK ever was

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Everyone I know has been shocked, saddened and dismayed by the violent and brutal attack that killed a black teen that was walking home from school last week in Chicago. It is unimaginable that the city whose politics produced the first black president of the United States could also produce perhaps more murders of black youth by black youth than anywhere else in the nation. Chicago, once a haven for black culture and economic progress, has become more dangerous for black youth than Mississippi was for their forebears before the great migration. Black youth gangs have become a greater threat to black youth than the Ku Klux Klan had been for their great grand parents!

The real irony of this ghastly development is that the religious movement that garnered the most respect for its ability to transform young black thugs into responsible men also has its home in Chicago. Controversial as it was and perhaps still is, the Nation of Islam, better known as the Black Muslims, cornered the market on its ability to transform the lives of prison inmates, urban thugs and street hustlers whose lives were not productive and whose lifestyles were self destructive. Elijah Muhammad, Malcolm X and Louis Farrakhan were both feared and revered for their potential to mesmerize black people – mostly men – and convert them into impeccably dressed, enviably disciplined, faithful adherents to new values that uplifted entire neighborhoods.
